From families who have worked with Estwell

AMPANG, KUALA LUMPUR

We called Estwell three weeks after my father passed away. The house was full of papers, none of it sorted, and we had no idea where the land title was. The team spent three hours going through everything, put it all in labelled folders and gave us a written list. When we met the lawyer the following week, we actually knew what we had. That meeting went much better than I expected.

My mother kept meticulous records but they were spread across three different filing systems she had built up over the years. The cataloguing service over four weeks made sense of all of it. The register they delivered is searchable on a laptop, which is what my siblings needed since two of them live in Penang. It was more work than I expected to schedule but the result was worth it.

I arranged the inventory session while my father is still well — he is 78 and has a lot of papers. The Estwell team was very considerate throughout. They explained what they were doing at each stage and the glossary they included in the inventory was useful because some of the insurance documents used language I did not recognise. I feel better knowing the record exists.

We engaged the Handover Programme for my mother's estate. There were documents at her house, documents at my brother's, and a shared folder that nobody could navigate. Nine months later we have a single archive that all four siblings can access, a register that makes sense and a procedures note that explains what we need to do each year. Nabilah coordinated everything carefully.

After my grandmother passed, we found she had kept records going back thirty years — some in Cantonese, some in English, some just handwritten notes. The cataloguing team handled the sorting without any fuss and noted in the register which documents might need someone who reads Chinese to read them properly. They did not try to interpret anything, which was exactly right. The photographic record has been useful for some of the older documents that are fragile.

I was not sure whether we needed the inventory session or the full cataloguing service. The initial call with Lee took about ten minutes and it was clear that the inventory session was enough for what we had. I appreciated that they did not push us toward a more expensive service. The work was done on a Saturday morning and the report was in my email by Monday.

INVENTORY SESSION · JULY 2025
BAY C-5 · CASE STUDIES

Three engagements in more detail

CASE STUDY 01 · INVENTORY SESSION

A family needed to meet their lawyer but did not know what documents they held

The Situation

A family in Taman Tun Dr Ismail had a scheduled meeting with a lawyer about their late father's estate, three weeks away. They knew there were documents in the house but could not produce an organised list of what was there. Two siblings had looked through the files and reached different conclusions about what existed.

What Estwell Did

Estwell conducted a three-hour inventory session at the property. Every folder, document and binder was logged, labelled with a location code and listed in a written register. The glossary clarified the document types. A summary email arrived the next morning.

The Outcome

The family went into the lawyer's meeting with a complete list. The lawyer's staff found the session significantly shorter than usual because the inventory covered what they would have spent the first part of the meeting establishing. The two siblings agreed on what existed before the meeting began.

CASE STUDY 02 · CATALOGUING SERVICE

Three siblings in three cities needed to access the same records without physically meeting

The Situation

Three adult children were managing their mother's affairs from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru. Documents were at the family home in Kepong. Each sibling had pieces of information the others did not. Coordinating document requests by message was creating friction.

What Estwell Did

Over three visits across four weeks, the Asset and Document Cataloguing Service produced a full scanned register indexed by document type. All three siblings were given access to the digital register on the storage drive. Physical documents remained at the family home, each with its register reference.

The Outcome

Each sibling could find any document in the register without asking the others. Requests for specific originals — for bank or administrative purposes — became straightforward because the register gave the exact location of each item. The friction in their correspondence reduced noticeably.

CASE STUDY 03 · HANDOVER PROGRAMME

A family wanted to build a record their children could use, starting from scratch

The Situation

A couple in their early sixties engaged Estwell while both were in good health. They had substantial property and financial records accumulated over forty years and wanted to ensure their three adult children would know exactly what existed and what to do with it — without relying on informal briefings.

What Estwell Did

The nine-month Handover Programme produced a full catalogue, a digitised and indexed archive accessible to all family members, a procedures note covering annual renewals and reviews, and quarterly maintenance to keep the register current. Estwell coordinated scheduling with the family's lawyer and accountant directly.

The Outcome

At the end of the programme, all three children had access to the shared archive and could navigate it without assistance. The procedures note meant recurring tasks were documented rather than remembered. The bound closing file serves as a physical summary of the whole record.
